MSK Ultrasound Guided Injection Training and Bone Marrow Aspiration Workshop

March 14th & 15th, 2025

Course Overview

Earn TBD AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ towards your continuing medical education with this hands-on training course. After a breakfast and welcome from President and CEO Patrick Pennie, Chief Scientific Officer Sina Farzaneh PhD starts the training with an Orthobiologics lecture. Dr. Irizarry-Román MD provides the Intro to Knee Lecture followed by Dr.  Michael Meng DC, RMSK, FNP-BC who will lecture on the Intro to Shoulder. The rest of the first day is comprised of hands-on workshops with live models to practice ultrasound scanning and simulated injection guidance.

The second day features Intro to Hip and Intro to Bone Marrow Aspiration Lectures followed by hands-on workshops and Biologic preparation demonstrations. The training event is wrapped up with a Question & Answer session and closing remarks.

Don’t miss this opportunity for valuable hands-on training and expert instruction!

Instructors

Dr. Michael Meng, DC, RMSK, ARNP, FNP-BC, FIAAM

Dr. Michael Meng came into Musculoskeletal Ultrasound shortly upon graduation from Chiropractic School, in 2003. While employed at Southern California’s largest Rheumatology practice, he quickly took a deep dive into musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic purposes. Over time he became an independent contractor providing ultrasound diagnostics to numerous clinics of multiple specialties. Dr. Meng has been privileged to perform ultrasound services for the United States Olympic Committee, Santa Monica Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, Anatara Medical, Bio Reset Medical, and the Orthohealing Institute.

Dr. Meng has contributed to multiple ultrasound textbooks with subjects ranging from diagnostics, pathologies, and interventions. Overall, he has been involved in the teaching of MSK ultrasound for 15 years and has more than 10 years of experience in regenerative medicine and ultrasound guided injections.

Dr. Moises Irizarry-Román, MD

With a passion for sports medicine, Dr. Irizarry-Román, has a long history of being the go-to practitioner for all levels of athletes. He works as a team sports physician for the Dixie Rodeo, and the Puerto Rico Islanders professional soccer team.

Course Objectives:

  1. Develop proficiency in advanced musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound imaging techniques for precise visualization of anatomical structures relevant to regenerative medicine injections.
  2. Discuss the principles and mechanisms of action behind various regenerative injection therapies, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and progenitor stem cell therapy.
  3. Master the art of needle placement and trajectory adjustments under ultrasound guidance to optimize accuracy and efficacy of injections.
  4. Practice injection techniques for common anatomical regions and pathologies, such as tendons, ligaments, joints, and soft tissue structures.
  5. Discuss strategies for patient positioning and probe manipulation to optimize ultrasound imaging and needle visualization during injections.
  6. Explore injection protocols and treatment algorithms tailored to specific musculoskeletal conditions, including tendonitis, osteoarthritis, ligament injuries, and more.
  7. Analyze and interpret ultrasound findings to guide clinical decision-making and treatment planning in regenerative medicine injections.
  8. Incorporate evidence-based practices and emerging technologies into injection therapies for improved patient outcomes and safety.
  9. Participate in hands-on workshops and live demonstrations to refine injection techniques under the guidance of experienced practitioners.
  10. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills to facilitate comprehensive patient care and multidisciplinary treatment approaches.
  11. Review the latest technology in advanced autologous biologics, including clinical platelet-rich plasma, bone marrow aspirate and concentrate.
  12. Outline differences in autologous biological preparation validation results, emphasizing platelet dosing and bioformulations.
  13. Identify sonoanatomy of shoulder, elbow, and knee in live models.
  14. Identify sonoanatomy of the PSIS for bone marrow aspiration in cadaver models.
  15. Assess the differences and potential of bone marrow aspiration methods as orthobiological injectates.
